The human body is clever.
When it comes to training, the body can adapt to a new routine very quickly.
In order to constantly push you to progress, to constantly encourage muscle growth, the body needs to constantly be challenged in different ways.
Your body uses three energy systems to produce energy for muscular work during your workouts.
By building progressions based on the three different energy systems, you are able to improve the performance of each and every door you walk through.
This will lead to an overall improved quality of life.
Our body taps into the systems depending on the duration of time and how much power we are exerting.
Alactic Energy System
This is your explosive power.
This system gives you maximal intensity for a short duration of time.
20 seconds or less.
It is also known as the ATP-CP system and as the name suggests, it consists of Adenosine Triphosphate and Creatine Phosphate.
This system will give you the fuel for very high intensity activity, but it burns out very quickly and needs adequate recovery time.
Lactic Energy System
The system next in line after the Alactic runs its course is the Lactic energy system.
This system involves speed and muscular endurance.
After maximum power decreases, this system creates peak lactic acid accumulation.
Intense activity from 20 seconds up to a minute.
“Feel the burn.”
This is the system where the athlete is mentally challenged, withstanding the uncomfortable feelings of stockpile of lactic acid and oxygen debt.
Aerobic Energy System
This is the lowest power but the longest duration oxidative system.
3 minutes and up.
It supplies energy at a much slower rate than the other two systems and has almost an unlimited supply.
It keeps us alive.
This is the system that allows us to recover from our output of the other two systems.
It is our muscular endurance and aerobic power.
During our life, we will come across situations that call for all three of these energy systems at different times.
So it makes sense to train all three!
Morph your routine to include the Alactic, Lactic, and Aerobic energy systems, and notice how much your performance improves.
